Yannick Kelly, 28, of the 6000 block of North Broad Street, was charged after assaulting an employee at a Popeyes near his home on Tuesday, Oct. 15, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Kelly tried to enter the Popeyes, located at 6000 North Broad Street, at 11:04 p.m. and was told by an employee that the restaurant was closing, police said.

After the employee unlocked the door to explain that they were no longer taking orders, Kelly forced his way inside, grabbed the worker by the neck, and began choking him, according to police. The employee pulled out a pocket knife as he struggled and stabbed Kelly.

Other employees intervened, causing Kelly to leave, police said. However, no one saw where he went when he left.

When officers arrived on the scene, they noticed blood inside and outside of the restaurant, according to police. Officers were able to follow the trail of blood northbound on Broad Street until they found a significant amount of blood on the front steps of a residence.

Officers entered the property and found Kelly in a bedroom, still bleeding from the knife wound, police said. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

Kelly was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, strangulation, and defiant trespass, according to his police and confirmed by court dockets.

His preliminary arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21, as detailed in court documents. He's being held on $75,000 bail.
